Personal
My name is Isaac Degani and I go to Mepham High School in Bellmore, NY. I'm in 12th grade, and heard about MARIACHI from my physics teacher, Mr. Bill Leacock. I spent my last Summer working on a research project with MARIACHI's radar system, and was named an Intel semifinalist for the paper I submitted. I run both Track and Cross Country, play the guitar, the cello and sing as well.
Research
I wanted to add to the Mariachi Radar system, which will hopefully one day be used to detect UHECR's, so I worked on an algorithm to sort through data. For an overview on the Mariachi Radar, follow this link : Radar
I built a SPIDA-2 Type Dipole antenna with Mr. Leacock, and hooked it up to a receiver in my backyard. It was tuned to a station in North Carolina. Here are some pictures of the construction, and the final product:Antenna Pictures
The data was then streamed from the antenna into Spectrum Laboratory, to create waterfall diagrams. The Mariachi website has a live waterfall diagram feed from its radar[1].
I then wrote a program using an image recognition algorithm to analyze the signals. It could detect airplanes, meteors, and potentially lightning and cosmic rays.
