Tom has returned to teaching after a 15 year respite. He is into his 4th year teaching AP and Regents Physics at Shoreham-Wading River High School. In 1971, after receiving a Bachelor of Engineering Science degree at Stony Brook, he began his career in education (yes, Tier 1) teaching physics at Mattituck High School - that lasted until 1988. The 15 year respite was spent as a programmer, analyst and partner in a database management company, Oaktree Systems, Inc.

What could be more rewarding than having your children follow in your footsteps? Jeremy, pictured with me here, is in his fifth year teaching AP Physics at Bayshore HS. Zachary, his older brother, is technology coordinator for the Town of Southold and Kimberly, although not close to any of my footsteps, enlightens me with discussions, books and articles linking science and religion. She is in a second year Masters of Divinity program at Union Theological Seminary in NYC.

QuarkNet2006

Being involved in Quarknet and MARIACHI for the past 3 years has been a motivating and rewarding experience. In addition to being 'linked-at-the-hip' with Helio Takai (I have been in every course he has offered), I'm planning on expanding my cosmic ray knowledge with Mike Marx and CEB558. Quarknet provided an opportunity to travel and meet with German high-school physics teachers at DESY high-energy accelerator facility in Hamburg, Germany. Our group is pictured at the right. We assembled a Quarknet cosmic ray detector, collected data and left, leaving the detector but returning with wonderful memories of a rewarding educational experience.

You may recognize Fermi Lab ... a 10 day Quarknet workshop at Fermi during the summer of '07 enriched my cosmic-ray knowledge, connected me with other teachers involved in cosmic ray research and assigned me the title of 'Quarknet Fellow'. I sure hope I can learn enough to live up that!
